In 2020, I moved back to India from the Netherlands, to join the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) in Bangalore for a postdoc, and that in the middle of the pandemic. Avoiding crowded places due to COVID lockdowns, my only recourse was to photograph the streets during my daily commute to work, from behind the barred windows of a moving (often speeding!) bus. What began as limiting, soon gave way to a new perspective and affection for these lesser known fringes of the city. Recurring motifs, people, streets, even animals, and their ever changing emotions, served as landmarks. They became the centerpiece of this series, En Route, shot over almost two years. While the Bus lent limited compositional freedom and imposed a fixed perspective into this theatre of life, it also imbued these moments with a great urgency.
